Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway

In a previous blog post, I shared about building a second brain. You can read more about that here.

In that post, I share how I am journaling my key takeaways from the books I am currently reading. I decided to take another step and create a digital journal to share a summary and key takeaways from each book.

Summary

“Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" by Susan Jeffers offers practical advice and strategies for overcoming fear and living a more fulfilling life. The central premise of the book is that fear is a natural part of the human experience, but it should not hold us back from pursuing our goals and dreams.

Susan Jeffers emphasizes that fear can paralyze us and prevent us from taking action. However, she explains that we have the power to choose how we respond to fear. Rather than allowing fear to control us, she encourages us to acknowledge our fears, accept them as normal, and take action despite feeling afraid.

Key Takeaways

  • The root of all fears is the fear of not being able to handle something

  • To overcome your fears, develop more trust in your ability to handle what life brings

  • Stop believing fear will go away and accept it is a natural part of life

  • Get out and do to overcome

  • Everyone else is experiencing fears as well

  • You can choose how you react to any situation

  • Change your thoughts = change your world

  • Life is an ongoing process of learning

Action Item

Create a whole life grid. Be 100% present in each area.

Susan Jeffers reveals the concept of the whole life grid. In her book, if you have only one area where you give all your focus and energy you will feel a deep void when it is gone. The example in the book is focusing your whole life on a relationship, and if that ends then you have nothing left which will make you want to fill that void with a new relationship right away. However, her whole life grid breaks down your life into different areas such as family, work, personal growth, hobbies, etc. If one area alters you are able to persist and not feel such a drastic sense of loss. Additionally, you will have more areas of your life that bring fulfillment.
